We’re building homes, not just housing

The mission of the Home Trust is to provide high-quality, sustainable, and permanently affordable housing for low-to moderate-income residents of San Juan Island.

Our homes are forever affordable

The Home Trust is the sole organization involved in the building and stewardship of permanently affordable housing on San Juan Island. These homes are subsidized through local donations and government grants, and never enter the open market.

Current Project: Argyle

The heart of Friday Harbor

The Home Trust is building up to 40 affordable rental homes, thoughtfully designed to complement our town's historic charm. With $15 million from public loans and grants, these single- and multifamily units will provide much-needed housing while preserving our community’s character.

Completion is expected by 2027, thanks in part to the Home Fund, though we are still counting on 30% of the funding to come from local donors.

You can help make this vision a reality.

Our community needs us

Affordable housing is the heart of a thriving, inclusive island community. It ensures that everyone—whether they’re running a business, teaching our kids, or serving in our local shops—has a place to call home. Without it, so many of us wouldn’t be able to stay here, in the place we love.

What our homeowners say…

  • “I have felt more stable and at ease living in this home than ever before on the island - you not only help place a roof over our heads but really allow us to excel in everything we do here on our island.”

    — Salal Homeowner

  • “This home in Sunrise I, means that I’ve had a secure, affordable, and beautiful place to live for the past 11 years. It's been a place where I have raised my child in a community. It's a place where I can paint the walls, plant a garden, and know that the mortgage will always be within my budget.”

    — Sun Rise I Homeowner

  • “The Home Trust has made a huge difference in our lives. Our affordable monthly payments allowed us to save money and we were able to purchase the equipment to start our masonry business. Now we employ people and support the community. Thank you everyone for supporting affordable housing.”

Raising Money & Awareness
for Affordable Housing

On September 15th, The Home Trust hosted the Second Annual Ride for Housing. This year’s dedicated cyclists raised over $25,000 and collectively pedaled 1,116 miles around the island. Overall the Ride for Housing raised over $40,000 for permanently affordable housing in Friday Harbor!

Thank you to all of our riders, sponsors, donors, and friends who made this event such a success!
